Rehearsing your...DRILL

Use a Drill Competition set of movements
Keep your drill short and smart
Select the best “marker”
Clan/team to be in full uniform
Comedy-drill is not real Drill
In Maze-Marching, select the correct pace and music-beat
Dress simply with paper caps, sashes, batons
Keep the programme brief

Rehearsing your...GAME

Don’t have too many props or obstacles
Don’t have too many players in a team ..6 max
If the clansmen don’t like the game neither will the audience
Don’t embarrass the smaller players or losing team
Don’t over-explain the rules to the audience..keep it simple
Don’t “over practice” the game
Don’t bully parents in to “joining in”
Use simple dress-up clothing or PE gear

Rehearsing your...Verse Speaking

Try to have all lines memorised ..rather than read.
Where you must have long passages use your two best readers
Select verses which relate to the age-group of the Clan.
Start using the microphones several time before the Display night
Do not let the reciter commence until the mics are ready Encourage the reciters to use expression in their lines
Do not let an activity cause a distraction to the spoken words

Rehearsing your ..Musical Movements

Select a simple well-liked tune..and start practising early
Choose your music first and make a good quality tape
Dont upgrade or change your tape “on the night”
Keep the arm or leg movements simple, clear and flowing
Use a “leading” clansmen at the front of your team
Put your best efforts into producing good costumes
Use spot or UV lights if practical

“You’re on Next!”

Be ready 5 minutes before you are called to the stage- door
Be quiet at the entrance of the stage- door
Don’t have too many props, or chairs, or cones
Check that the correct tape is in the PA System
Make sure all microphones are at the correct height
Check that the lights are right, if needed
Don’t “over-explain” what the purpose of a game is
Be brief (4 minutes) and good, rather than long (10 minutes) and boring
Don’t spend hours coaxing a parent to join in a game. Ask in advance.
Keep verse-speaking to a minimum

On the day!

Check that the seating, prizes, microphones, programmes, etc are in place by the afternoon at the latest.
Place Notices and “Reserved” signs as required
